This five-letter word is worthy indeed
with its splendour, spread around
among all our kin and kith
and whoever comes in contact with.
Producing a vibrant appeal
even in a collapsed scene;
brings the injured, solace well,
as a liniment put on lesions.
Quiet and mild its profile is,
endearing the viewers’ heart
and is it the laughter’s dear daughter,
which is noisy and wild in nature.
Possesses it the mesmeric healing
when our hearts and minds are hurt.
Acts it as a calming agent, if
comes it from a genuine mind.
Hiding venom in minds, the people
bearing this on their visage,
as if wishing upright things,
await cheating chances keenly.
Appears it in different shapes
as a slit small, in clipped lips,
or a curve in the half-split mouth
or like brackets with an outlet.
Nothing but the ‘SMILE’ is this;
So, smile so sweet, let us have
and allow it to be a permanent resident
of our valuable countenances.
Smile and smile at everyone;
it incurs us outlays nil.
Alas! Covers it, today’s masks,
that we wear at the stage of COVID.

ReplyDeleteTrue, the full smile be hidden... but honest smiles show in the eyes - so never forget to keep it going! YAM xx
Thank you, Yamini.
DeleteHere is a song lyrics from the famous singer Nat King Cole:
ReplyDeleteSmile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you
Aha! A poem is the comment. Thank you, SG.
