It was Unexpected!

It was Unexpected!

Sreelatha was worried about her dear daughter Malini, as she exhibits some kind of indifference towards things.

When the time for breakfast was up, she called her, “Malu, Maloo, Malini, Malinee, ….,” Shreelatha, Malini’s mother.” Having no rejoinder from Malini, her hind limbs moved to Malini’s room. “She has a sort of mood swings, of late. Don’t know the reason,” Sreelatha whispered to herself.

It was a Sunday, Malini was lying on the bed reversing the body to the bed. Amma went near and stroked her back affectionately, " Mole, have your breakfast. It is already late. Come.”

“………….”

Shreelatha raised the volume of her tone. Malini neither turned up nor did she retort. Now Shreelatha mixed her voice with the spice of anger a bit.

 Still Malini, “………”

Mother applied a little force and turned her up. Her eyes were closed tightly and didn’t look at her mother.

Malini was the only daughter of Shreelatha and Krishnan, who hailed from lower-middle-class families and so also is their present life. At the time of the couple’s nuptials, Krishnan had landed in a smithy, as a welder. His income was just enough to meet both ends of theirs. One of his village-dwellers in his locale, Raghavan was in a gulf country, where he owned somewhat a profitable business concern. It undertook all sorts of petite jobs like building repair, plumbing correction, welding work, electrical settings and so on and so on. As he wanted a welder, evading all others, Krishnan crept into his mind. So, Krishnan without taking many pains could get into the cloak of a foreign employee. His remuneration, though not of gathering envies from others, filled satisfaction in his purse. Now the couple’s lifestyle took a right turn, much distinct from what they were following earlier.

The yield of the matrimonial life of Krishnan and Shreelatha was Malinee, who was crowned as the duchess of their little residence. She grew up with ample toys, piquant food and suitable dress since there was no other issue to be reared up. She had a playmate of her childhood named Sukesh who whenever possessed a wee free time, launched his presence in Malini’s amity. Both were in the same school with a difference of one class. The same school vehicle escorted them for their onward and backward journeys.

After school and in holidays, the kids got engaged in playing along with some other children from around their residences. Their games took place under the water tap in Malini’s or Sukesh’s compound. The duo was much enthused by their pals in the society of nature. They poured water in the soil and fully soaked soil attained different shapes in their hands. Malu sometimes walked softly like a cat and transferred some kitchen wares to their play venue. In the meantime, Malini’s puppy also joined them. Squirrels on the branches enjoyed the children’s games and sparrows also with their gripping little steps exhibited their ballet to entertain the little ones. Crows cawing loudly flew away at the sight of stones in the little hands. The Sun, concluding his day’s duty when returned to his asylum, winding up the day’s game, the kids used to disperse and ensured their punching home.

As Sukesh was growing up, his figure was growing in Malini’s mind also. By now Malini reached such a stage that she could not think of having a friendship with any other boy, who expressed interest in her company. Her inner conscience had submitted herself to Sukesh. Her teeny mind didn’t go that deep to realize that she was not receiving any reciprocation of that genus from him. But sometimes she became a bit sceptic about Sukesh’s attitude also. Sukesh did not express any teeny attachment to her, preferred he always her company though. Moreover, in his school, the friendship with other girls too excited him a great deal. Malini envied and disliked them and in her innate mind did not include such girls in her friends’ group. The juvenile folks had gone under the impression of a love bond between Malu and Sukesh and hence they had accepted their acceptance to each other.

Quite often Sukesh immersed in deep thought and sometimes, all of a sudden jerked to the present. Some uneasiness or disquiet subjugated him, eating away his quiet. Some confusion took place in his mind, he became upset about silly matters. Slowly he kept himself away from people even Malini. He withdrew his appendages of contacts and contracted himself within, like a snail. The question- whether or not- without answers created a puzzle in his mind. His mother noticed all these moods in her son, but on inquiring, he avoided his mother. Somehow, he could complete his XII grade. And eventually, he decided to expose his mind to his mother, who fell into total trepidation. She was shocked at first and after remaining in thoughts and thoughts, realized the reality.

After the mutual conversation, the parents with their son arrived at a hospital, where the counselling psychiatrist made them aware of Sukesh’s problem. He suggested means and methods for rectifying it, “Your son’s impaired thoughts will disappear. He needs surgery. Please think over it and it is costly also. If you can afford it, let me know. Don’t worry, can be corrected. Then he will be a satisfied individual.”

Things with Malini were getting worse and therefore her grievance had no boundary. She smelt something fishy, despite her perseverance to attain him. She wondered, “Who is that girl to snatch Sukesh from me? Is she prettier than me?” Sukesh’s distance was a dagger piercing her mind and it was beyond her tolerance level. She took very little food; often her cheeks were bathed in the wetness from her eyes. Slumber also approached her only partially. In the meantime, the Raghavans shortened or practically curbed their visits to the Krishnans. But on thorough scrutiny, in her mind, she understood that Sukesh’s family wanted to stay away from all in the village. Hence, they hired a house in a city much far. Still, she couldn’t erase Sukesh’s figure from the canvass of her mind.

A shadow of glumness followed Sukesh’s family. Conversations and discussions continued for a few days, though they made themselves ready to face the plight. He was a boy with gender dysphoria. His sex assigned at birth as a male as per external genitals was not in proper compatibility with his internal sex identification. Hence the parents had to agree with their son, who remained sustained in his decision for the Gender Reassignment Surgery.

Procedures in multiples like mental health evaluation, sexual and asexual body parts' correction, skin smoothening, voice exercise, hormone therapy and so on travelled through his mind as well as body for nearly a year. And crossing the threshold of all the barriers, Sukesh became Sukeshi, and was titled transsexual. He (She) discarding all his(her) male’s garbs, began cuddling females’ costumes. Now he is in the physique of a fully-grown woman.

Malini was passing her days without the company of Sukesh but her agony augmented and concentration in XII grade diminished. She didn’t express it in front of her parents though they understood her dejection. On that Sunday Malini’s attitude and her immature teen advised her to swallow cockroach repellent medicine and finish her life without Sukesh. Fainted she on the bed. Shreelatha’s entry to her room at that time attained yells of fear and anxiety of the highest pitch which attracted the next-door neighbours’ attention. Sudden action and immediate attention from the doctors brought her back to life. Effective counselling slowly and gradually drew her turbulent mind to normalcy. Sukesh’s family’s events hadn’t made their entry into Malini’s domicile as they had chosen the city life. And Krishnan had already migrated to another gulf country on a new job. So, his family was not aware of Sukesh’s transition.

And now a woman from Sukesh’s immediate neighbourhood when happened to visit Malini’s parents, “He is a cute girl now.”

“He is a cute girl! What!”

She narrated the entire story. It was unexpected for the Krishnans and they felt sorry for the Raghavans and were apprehensive about their dear daughter.

The news was tactfully injected into Malu’s

mind. Now things had become vivid and with much difficulty, Malini caught her mind from the meadows of Sukesh and on recovery from her distraught state, tied it to the peg of her academics.

Alone I am!

Butterfly, o, dear, do you have a mom

that gives you, diets always piquant?

O, Parrot dear, do you have a caring pop;

who brings you always lovely toys?

O, my darling puppy, a beloved-fervent

brother, did you ever wish you had?

I had a fond dad, who acted as an elephant and

as the mahout,  I rode on him relishing rides.

Appreciated mama mine, sincerely the scene,

applauded and approved, gleefully the game.

Joined us my little brother, Munnu

and as another mahout, he clouted dad.

But now alone I am; alas! No dad and Mom

and no loving brother to have any games.

The hard God made me sad, solitude attacks me,

and replace I can none in place of all my kin.

Fills in my eyes rain, well their memories,

when in my dreams visit, my mama and papa.

What, for them, can I do, only a boy of nine?

Sitting here alone, I can only sigh with sorrow?

Ran a truck of size very huge, over our car;

rapid was God to take my loved ones away.

God likes me not, so He didn’t include me

but flung me to the widespread ground lied far.

I wish I be with them, I don’t know how to go,

obliged ever I shall be if anyone of you helps me.

My affectionate grandma is kind and gentle and

Why I laugh and play, you know, my friends?

Even I am going to school, showing not any hassle

and do my lessons fairly well, however no crankiness.

I want my old grandma to be happy much,

for, none is there to be with me, but my dear granny.

One year's Service!

 One year’s service
 only possesses
our warden, two-oh-nineteen.
Packed he his baggage readily
 to end his service;
as his pact is over now.
Signed pact he
has for one year,
and bids he adieu silently.
Well performs he his duty;
but fail sometimes
we, it, to fulfill.
 We had specified
all the things
in the agreement we had signed.
On an analysis, see we can,
most of the things in
 wish-list achieved.
Under the janitor,
due to devotion,
find we can many flaws and faults.
Couldn’t we realize,
 if our demands,
worry not, we can do now.
 Extends cheerfully,
  the janitor  new
Twenty-twenty, his helping hands.
Flaunt people
with empty packets,
just to show that fruitful they are.
But in course of time’s currents
naked becomes
well, their void.
So better is to accept mistakes
 and admit them
 in our circles.
embrace we should without doubt
the chance nearest
to correct them all.
Matured is the time for ending
the bond signed
 for two-oh-nineteen.
Welcome  here now let us with
 warmth and much love
 twenty-twenty.

Wish all a very cheerful, joyful and peaceful twenty-twenty (2020).

Crystal-clear Drops!

Crystal Brook!

crystal brook
reflects the willow trees
birds sing their song.
Willow trees at their gaiety
their beautiful image in water.

Crystal-clear Drops!

Pelt kids stones in brook,
splash water-drops as glass-squads.
Ah! very pretty sight!

Silver drops shimmer
in air; o, crystal-clear drops
of water, catching.

O, no diamond
splinters soar in air, little
 eyes in excitement.

They are a hundred
stars, aha! Fly and flicker,
Little hands in claps.

Little legs many
approach, loud laughter tinkles,
 hilarious scene.

The Plight that the Pandits Faced!

“If there is a heaven on earth, it’s here, it’s here it’s here,” Moghul emperor Jahangir when once visited Kashmir; his admiration towards the valley hovered as words from his mouth. True, if Kashmir had contested in her scenic look with her fellow contestants, only she would have been crowned as the beauty queen. The valley, garbed in lush green velvet and wearing multicoloured blooms on her hair, grabbed the optical organs of the onlookers from everywhere. Now alas! The valley has been battered down turning her apparel to be red with blood-shed. The journalist Rahul Pandita unearths certain facts regarding the outrage of militants against Kashmiri Pandits. A terrific image has been unfurled by him in his book ‘Our Moon has Blood clots’.

This write-up is my impressions about the quandary of Kashmiri Pandits, who fell in a fix when the revolt against them took roots in the soil of Kashmir. Kashmir- the word has a feminine sense and its origin is from Sanskrit, meaning soft and exotic. But Hindu mythology says it was sage Kashyapa’s mir (Kashyapa lake) because he had drained the erstwhile lake to obtain that land. Whatever the claim may be the land is a valley known for its glamour, attracting millions of people from all around the globe. The ranges of the Himalayas and Pir Panjal provide ample securities to the beauty-princess on either side.

The title heaven on Earth is true to its core as the eyes of the visitors become reluctant to retrieve from the valley’s mesmerizing exquisiteness. Gardens, forests, lakes, mountains, pine trees and scented blooms are synonyms of its exquisiteness and so itself Kashmir seems to be a special creation of God. He has mixed beauty and perfume together in a palette, painted a pretty landscape, named it Kashmir and placed it at the northern end of India.

The people are blessed with bountiful comforts arranged by Nature in this valley. The only drawback found there is that it lies between two countries of which one aims at disquieting the quiet of the valley and the other supports the former. And hence there started the stir, stirring the sleep of peace-loving Pandits. The countries creating headache to Kashmir are said to be our neighbours, Pakistan and China. It is said that Pakistan began its way of training and conditioning Muslim youths of both Pakistan and Kashmir and it became fruitful in shaping them into well-versed militants(They claim that India also journeys on the same track, I am ignorant of that). Those militants were pumped into the valley with a view to crafting havoc and chaos among the natives. However, whoever the insurgents may be, they are wicked enough to display their smartness, executing terrific plans and achieve goals greater than what their trainers had planned and designed. The well-trained radicals launched a commotion of tall stature among the poor Pandits, who are very well the sons of the soil,  as per their birth and culture for generations.

The misfortune of these Pandits was that they were non-Muslims. Pakistan’s main objective is said to be conquering Kashmir by crook or by hook and wash ashore all the peace loving Pandits from their own land. In accordance with the Accession Treaty signed in October, 1947, by Maharaja Hari Singh, that princely state became a part of the Indian Union. The lust of doing away with the natives, the militants launched many a martial art in that lovely valley.

It is said that the trained terrorists skilled in insurgency used utterly barbarian procedures to get their end and in no way such acts,  one can justify or support. They started hunting and hurting the Pandits, in very many ways for letting their souls be from their body. Innumerable Pandits (the official number is around four hundred-that is not the correct statistics) had to bid bye to their lives. The extremists spared not oldies, youngsters, ladies and even babies and many such had to part with their lives.

Lakhs of them eloped to Jammu and Delhi leaving aside their beloved belongings. The palatial mansions, medium type houses, petite havens, etc. were encroached by the extremist groups so that the Pandits would not go back to their indigenous abodes. All the elopers had to live in petty and tiny rooms suffering from scarcity of water, food and other essentials.

The demography of Pandits shows that their population has shrunken to thousands from voluminous lacks in their own motherland. The state government and the union government turned a blind eye to the Pandits, stretching no helping arm to them. Besides this beastly murder, they staged some other primitive performance like gang rape on ladies and that too in front of their kinfolk. Girl-children were also not let to go, instead subjected to sexual harassment. Clemency and respect were not in the attackers’ assassination dictionary, as they demonstrated utmost spite to the bodies by kicking them to dirty ditches and urinating on them.

Rahul Pandita’s book, ‘Our Moon has Blood Clots’ very vividly draws the picture of all atrocities implanted by the militants in the valley of Kashmir.  I was able to rather happened to read its Malayalam version. The words turned vague through a film of tears that filled my visual parts. Once you take the book in hand, you will not be willing to shelf it before completion.

In the heat of the impertinence they possess, these young people do not understand what they are and were doing. That much they are brainwashed to drain out the last drop of pity from their minds. Their parents may be normal peace-loving people, but they become helpless by the time they become aware of their dear offspring’s deed.

Empathy etched in sympathy becomes a strainer that drains out all sorts of malice from one’s behavior.  If these young minds are well guided and well-advised right from their toddling age, they might have cultivated these human values in the field of their character. The militants are crooked ones and hence they sure bear a nimble brain. Such brains are utilized for good reason, many more paradises can be built on earth. We feel pity for these young blood because they don't have a fear-free life. Any time these militants may fall into military nets so that the rest of their life will rest in jails. May God help them to think with reason.

Otherwise, they will gulp the result of their job. They have a human shape, though the commodity of humanity has turned to be seldom in their framework. But each one will obtain one’s wage of his work here on earth itself. A point of time will cuddle them when the conscience of each is awake continually reminding them of the sin they had earned in their pocket. And this conscience will spoil their calm of mind forever, providing sufferings and hardships.  Their ‘Karma’ will lash them severely in the form of ill-health or cash crunch or loss of the dear and near when the youth stage bids adieu to them and that severity will be unendurable.

                           Reference from the aforesaid book.
